Another ‘world’s largest cruise ship’ takes to the sea

Last month, ‘The Wonder of the Seas’ was towed out of the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, before being put through her paces on the open seas. In spring 2022, she will be Europe bound for a series of trips around the Mediterranean, departing from Rome and Barcelona. For details, see this recent post on the MarineTraffic blog.

SPS is keeping a close eye on the Solent Freeport proposal to see how the future of the Southampton cruise business might evolve. With the relentless increase in size of both passenger and container vessels passing between the shores of the Solent, it’s only a matter of time before we’ll need to reconsider our traditional perspective on protecting ‘the view from the sea’!
