Discharges by Southern Water into Langstone Harbour

Professor Alex Ford from the University of Portsmouth’s Centre for Blue Governance has recently posted this blog highlighting the issue of sewage pollution from Southern Water’s Budds Farm waste water treatment works.

The business and leisure users of Langstone Harbour have been mounting increasingly vocal campaigns against these discharges, to little obvious effect, so with our increasing focus on the impact of Pollution on Solent Waters, the SPS Pollution working group are now engaging directly with Southern Water to seek some answers.

Following discussion with Southern Water staff, we have submitted a set of formal questions to them under the terms of the Environmental Information Regulations, which requires a formal response within 20 working days from the date of receipt. Twenty days later, we have received the following disappointing holding reply:

“…The volume of information referred to in your requests means that we will require between 20 and 40 working days to consider your request…

This post is simply a ‘head’s up’, prompted by Alex Ford’s timely documentary video blog. We will post further details in due course.
