Search and Rescue operations like this are directed by HM Coastguard. But that will change during 2014 as a result of a major reorganisation of Coastguard. Lee on Solent Coastguard will close, and be integrated into the new Coastguard National Maritime Operations Centre at Segensworth near Fareham.
While the new communications technologies should improve Coastguard service, there are many detailed questions. So Solent Protection Society has arranged for Geoff Matthews, the senior Coastguard, responsible for managing much of the change to deliver a lecture setting out the change, and the management of the transition. The lecture will take place in Southampton on 22nd January at the Solent University Conference Centre. The lecture is open to the public,but booking is essential.
