Whilst the Society welcomed the general approach of the proposals in the Planning White Paper, in its response it expressed concern that any improvement would be dependent on the how the changes were implemented by the Government and the Independent Planning Commission (IPC).
In particular the Society is concerned at the potential loss of democratic involvement; that hearings will become simplistic due to the inquisitional approach and that there will be sufficient relevantly qualified staff in the IPC. The full response can be downloaded from the website or obtained from the Secretary.
